Professor Cassese’s research and teaching interests lie broadly in American politics and political behavior, with an emphasis on religion and politics, gender, public opinion, and the political consequences of emotion. Her work has appeared in edited volumes on The Affect Effect? Dynamics of Emotion in Political Thinking and Behavior; Terrorism and Torture: An Interdisciplinary Perspective; The Gender Gap? Voting and the Sexes; Political Women and American Democracy; Charter Schools: Hope or Hype?; and Besieged: School Boards and the Future of Education Politics. Professor Cassese recently completed her dissertation, “Culture Wars as Identity Politics”, which she plans to convert into a book-length manuscript. This year, she will teach courses in gender and politics, public opinion, and political methodology. Recently, her dissertation was recently recognized as the best dissertation in the area of political psychology by the Political Psychology Section of the American Political Science Association.
