Professor Jones-West’s interests span comparative political analysis, Latin American politics, campaigns and elections, political parties, and ethnic politics. She teaches courses on Introduction to Comparative Politics, Latin American Politics, and the Political Economy of Developing Areas, as well as a graduate seminar on the Politics of Developing Areas. Her recently completed dissertation is titled “Ethnic Party Success in Latin America: A Study of Campaigns and Elections in Ecuador.” Her current conference papers examine the impact of district magnitude on the representation earned by ethnic political parties; how domestic and international institutions function as veto players; and citizen-party linkages created by political parties in Ecuador. She is the author of “Nonvoters,” in the Encyclopedia of Campaigns, Elections and Electoral Behavior, edited by Kenneth F. Warren, (Sage Publications, forthcoming). Her awards include the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award, University of Iowa Council on Teaching, 2007; the T. Anne Cleary International Dissertation Fellowship, University of Iowa Graduate College, 2006 – 2007, and the Crossing Borders Dissertation Fellowship, Ford Foundation and University of Iowa, Summer 2006.
