Dr. Studlar is an internationally recognized scholar who teaches and researches the comparative politics of Western democracies, especially comparative public policy. He teaches the following courses: West European Politics, The Politics of the European Union, Comparative Public Policy, and Introduction to Comparative Politics. His current research includes work on comparative tobacco control policies, voting turnout in European Parliament elections, and influences on differences in gender representation in legislatures. His four books include Tobacco Control: Comparative Politics in the United States and Canada (Broadview Press, 2002) and Britain: Decline or Renewal? (Westview, 1996). He is the author of over 100 articles and has published in most of the major journals in political science, including the American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and Comparative Political Studies During 1993-2005, he served as Executive Secretary of the British Politics Group, and he has been a member of the editorial boards of several journals, including the American Review of Canadian Studies, Australian Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Politics and International Affairs, Journal of Legislative Studies, Political Research Quarterly, and State Politics and Policy Quarterly. He is a three-time Fulbright award recipient and has been a Visiting Fellow at several universities, including the Australian National University, the Universities of Regina, Toronto, and Victoria in Canada, the Universities of Strathclyde and Warwick in the United Kingdom, and the University of Aarhus, Denmark. In the U.S., previously he served on the faculties of the University of Nebraska, Center College, and Oklahoma State University.
